AWLN DIASPORA

Since its establishment in 2017, the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) has worked to strengthen women’s leadership and participation in decision-making across Africa, building a continental movement rooted in solidarity, advocacy, peer learning, mentoring and capacity-building.

As the Network expanded across the continent through its National Chapters and broader constituencies, the importance of connecting this growing movement with African women and women of African descent living beyond the continent became increasingly clear. The African Diaspora represents an important source of leadership, knowledge, expertise, influence and partnerships that can contribute to advancing women’s leadership and Africa’s peace and development agenda.

It was within this context that the AWLN Diaspora was officially launched on 13 March 2024 in New York, on the margins of the 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68). The launch marked a significant expansion of AWLN’s efforts to connect and empower African women and women leaders of African descent globally.
